How to Care for Garden Furniture
Here at Leader Stores we stock only the best quality garden furniture to ensure that you get both durability and longevity from your purchases. Yet a little TLC can go a long way towards making your garden furniture last that little bit longer. We’ve got some top tips for the simplest ways to keep your garden seating and storage looking as fresh as the day you bought it!
Painting
One of the simplest ways to freshen up your garden furniture, adding a fresh coat of paint in springtime ready for the summer will restore any damage to the colour such as fading or chipping and will breathe new life into any well-loved piece of garden furniture.
Sanding
You may find when you come to paint your garden furniture that there are already too many layers of paint or damaged material for you to simply gloss over, so smoothing down the rough edges and layers can help to give you a fresh new surface to work with when looking to restore the original look of your garden seating or structures.
Preserving Wood
Wooden garden furniture is a very popular and commonly found choice for gardens, but many don’t realise that it takes a lot of care to maintain the quality of wood. Investing in some basic tools such as wood fillers, wax & polish and preservative paint can really enhance the longevity of your garden furniture.
Cleaning
As with any furniture, your garden structures can always benefit from a frequent clean. Sponge your furniture with hot soapy water or hardwood cleaning finish in Spring then continue to dust and spruce throughout the Summer months. Be careful if you’re considering using a pressure washer as this can actually lift paint and the grain of the wood!
Protecting Against Weather
If you don’t have anywhere to store your garden furniture during Winter or inclement weather, invest in some waterproof furniture covers to protect it from the worst of the damage! We do recommend that you try and store smaller pieces such as garden chairs in a larger structure suited to handling the elements.
